It’s been only about 10 days since Jolla announced its first tablet, the Jolla Tablet, and opened an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign for it, but the company has already received more than triple of its original goal funding. In celebration of this success, Jolla has introduced new stretch goals so you have the opportunity to have an even better tablet with additional software and hardware enhancements.
“We are overwhelmed with how quickly we reached the initial goal in the campaign, and also one of the great success so far. A huge thanks goes to our worldwide community for the strong support. Now we are proud to announce new campaign goals, including the 3.5G cellular data support, one of the most requested features by our community.” – Co-Founder and COO of Jolla, Marc Dillon.
The Jolla Tablet has currently raised about US$1.3 million, and if the campaign hits US$1.5 million, the folks at Jolla will add support for 128GB microSDHC memory cards. On top of the 32GB built-in storage, there’ll be plenty of space for all your pictures, videos, music, books and more.
If the Jolla Tablet campaign hits US$1.75 million, the next stretch goal will unlock the Split Screen feature so you can work on two apps at the same time. Split screen multitasking isn’t anything new, but it’ll definitely be a very useful tool if included into Sailfish OS, and is one that the community has requested for. Split screen will be available to users as a software update during Q3 2015.
Finally, the ultimate stretch goal (for now at least) is US$2.5 million. When this Indiegogo crowd funding campaign hits that amount, Jolla will offer a 3G HSDPA version of the tablet for an additional US$30. Cellular data connection is one of the most asked for feature by Jolla’s community and for only U$30, it sounds like a great deal – cellular version of the latest iPads is over RM400 more expensive than the Wi-Fi only ones. Those who have already pledged the original amount for a Jolla Tablet need only pay the additional US$30.
You can contribute to the project by visiting Jolla’s Indiegogo page. The company is now shipping to more countries but sadly Malaysia isn’t one of them. If you want the Jolla Tablet and wish to help the company reach its ultimate goal, it’s time to make friends with someone in the U.S, Europe, Norway, Switzerland, India, China, Hong Kong, Russia, Australia or Canada.
