Aspiring professional gamers can test out their skills at the Selangor Cyber Games that is happening on the 13th and 14th December at Encorp Strand Mall in Kota Damansara. This event is jointly organised by the government of Selangor with a total prize pool of RM30,000. eSports isn’t exactly a big thing yet in Malaysia, so it’s always good to see an eSport event taking place locally – especially with some form of backing from the authorities.
Among all of the games at the eSports event, DotA 2 has the highest prize pool of RM23,500. The DotA 2 events will run for two days; the first day is the qualifier, while the second day is the grand final. Unfortunately, due to the rather limited open slots, registrations for this game has now closed.
However, there are already eight teams eligible for the grand final, so only the top two teams from the qualifying round will advance. The eight teams are: Team Malaysia, Invasion eSports, Who2bet, Underminer.Regal, G-Guard, TBD, Distrix 5, and Underminer C.
The other games, which are League of Legends, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and FIFA 14, will each have a collective prize pool of RM2,200. The former two games will be played on the PC (for obvious reasons), while FIFA 14 will be played on the PS4.
Those who are interested to sign up or want more information can visit the official website here. Do take note that the Selangor Cyber Games is only open to Malaysian citizens aged between 16-35, and a registration fee of RM25 per team will also be charged for the team-based games, and RM10 per individual for FIFA 15.
