Ingram Micro has announced the new Ingram Micro Cover Plus – Essential, an insurance plan for smartphones underwritten by Zurich Insurance Malaysia. From as low as 49 sen a day, this plan protects your mobile device against accidental damage that standard smartphone warranties do not cover.
The new Cover Plus – Essential insurance plan, which will be available starting from 1 December nationwide, provides protection and benefits that are pretty substantial for your smartphone. The plan provides the following benefits:
- 3 months extension to manufacturer’s warranty
- unlimited claims for repairs and replacements
- coverage of accidental damage repair
- all repair services guaranteed for 3 months
- replacement service of unrepairable devices up to RM3,500
- 2-day turnaround time for device replacement
- 7-day turnaround time for device repairs
On top of that, the plan also provides free pick up and delivery of your smartphone as part of the repair or replacement claim. Also, one interesting benefit in this plan is what Ingram Micro calls Phone Bill and Contract Protection, which pays for your smartphone contract bills up to RM1,000 when you are hospitalised for more than seven days.
Customers also enjoy worldwide coverage, free technical hotline with a dedicated toll free number (operating hours: 8am-8pm weekdays) and a subscription to Trend Micro mobile antivirus to protect your device against malware. Unfortunately, the plan does not cover theft, and is only available for smartphones.
In comparison with the U Mobile U Care Plus 8, the benefits of this plan certainly appears to justify the additional annual premium the Ingram Micro plan commands.
To start off, the will be five Cover Plus – Essential plans available to consumers, where the annual fee are based on the device’s official retail price. In addition, there will be an excess fee charged each time a device repair or replacement is made. Here’s the breakdown:
Ingram Micro also made sure claims procedures are as hassle-free and as painless as possible. When customers wish to file a claim for a damaged device, they just need to call the toll-free Customer Care number to lodge a report, and then proceed to submit a claim form online or via fax alongside a proof of purchase and the customer’s IC. After that, a member from the claims team will be in touch to facilitate collection of the device.
For now, the plan will only be available for subscription for new smartphone purchases made at 100 authorised Ingram Micro dealers in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan; more dealers are expected to be announced throughout the country over the coming months. That means you cannot subscribe to this plan for your current smartphone, nor will you be able to purchase a smartphone from other retailers and then subscribe to this plan.
