Procedurally generated dungeon crawler Torchlight is currently free on the Arc gaming platform; while the sequel is on a 75-percent discount. Arc may not sound familiar to most, as it is one of the newer platforms around. Created by Perfect World Entertainment to provide a single place to locate all its games.
Torchlight will be free to download from Arc until 30 November, and is worth the effort for those who have not had the chance to experience the best hack and slash RPG since Diablo 2. Admittedly, the game is already five years old, although that really doesn’t mean much these days when people are still talking about Fallout 3 that was released six years ago.
Torchlight II was released around the same time as Diablo 3, and was originally considered to be the better choice between the two at the time. While it isn’t free at the moment, it is going for a low US$5.
There is a catch for downloading Torchlight for free in that users will have to sign up for Arc to gain access to it. Some gamers would rather not have anything to do with Perfect World, but there is really no loss for them on this occasion.
