There are many more choices of Android smartwatches now more than ever; from ones with square displays to the ones with round displays such as the LG G Watch R and Moto 360. While the hardware aspect of Android smartwatches have improved dramatically, the main let-down is still the software: the Android Wear OS. Hopefully, with the Lollipop update for Android Wear, this would change.
First things first, the watch faces have received a revamp. Along with new watch faces, it is now possible to change them from the Android Wear companion app installed on your Android phone. This may be a tiny change, but it is a very welcome addition. Previously, it was only possible to change watch faces from the watch itself. Other than that, weather notifications can now be displayed directly on the watch face. Here are some of the weather icons available:
The Lollipop update for the Android Wear also brings the addition of Watch battery and Watch storage page on the companion app. The Watch battery page is similar to the battery information page found on Android phones and tablets, making it easier to find out which apps are draining the battery life of your Android Wear device. The Watch storage, on the other hand, shows the amount of space that apps in the smartwatch are taking up. Since Android Wear devices are capable of storing music files now, it is helpful to know just how much space you have left.
There is also the addition of two new screen brightness settings in the Lollipop update, aptly named Theater mode and Sunlight mode. Theater mode turns down the brightness for the smartwatch to not be intrusive in dark environments, while Sunlight mode cranks up the brightness for the Android Wear device to be eligible under bright sunlight. The ability to recover dismissed notification cards is also added with the Android Wear Lollipop update.
These are only some of the features leaked by Phandroid. Certain features might be removed, while new features not shown here might be added as well. We would only see a final version on early December, the rumoured release month of the Lollipop update for Android Wear.
