Back in Computex 2014, we saw the console-inspired Asus GR8 compact gaming PC. For those who have been wondering when it would arrive here, Asus Malaysia has announced today the availability of the Asus GR8 in Malaysia. The Asus GR8’s console inspiration is translated in its compact 2.5-liter chassis; giving it the appearance of a gaming console rather than a desktop PC.
The Asus GR8 is powered by the intel i7-4510U processor with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti GPU. Storage wise, there is a choice of either a 1TB 7200RPM HDD or a 256GB SSD, with a 2.5′ extension bay for and additional HDD or SSD, and RAM of up to 16GB DDR3L. The GR8 also has special slide-off covers for easy access to the extension and memory bays for easy upgrades.
Connectivity of the GR8 is to be expected of a gaming PC. Among others, the GR8 has four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports (one also doubles as a USB charger), one HDMI port which supports up to 4k resolution, and built-in dual-band 802.11ac WiFi. Asus has also mentioned that the GR8 is pretty silent; producing 20dB at idle and 28dB at full capacity.
Bundled with the GR8 is Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro, along with Asus’ Gladius optical mouse and M801 mechanical keyboard. The Gladius mouse features Omron switches with a 6400DPI optical sensor, while the M801 mechnical keyboard uses Cherry MX red switches, making it the ideal keyboard for gaming.
The Asus GR8 is priced at RM3388 and is available starting today. For more information, head on to the official Asus ROG GR8 product page.
