WhatsApp has just been updated with a neat little feature that allows users to see that their sent messages have been read. Not to be confused with the double check marks we’ve been seeing since the day WhatsApp was launched, the new “read” feature will show you the double check marks in blue instead.
It has been believed that double check marks on a message indicates that it has been read, but that is not the case. Single check mark indicates that the message has been sent out, and double check marks only means that the message has reached the receiver’s device. From now onwards, when those check marks turns blue, it means that the message has been read. Sure, you can use the “last seen” as an indicator as to whether or not the person has seen your message, but with this new update, you can know for sure.
It’s not something that requires you to update in the app store, instead, the new feature is something the company has pushed over-the-air to both iOS and Android versions of the app. This means that you can’t opt out of the feature and starting immediately, you will no longer be able to use “I didn’t read your message yet” as an excuse to get out of things.
What do you think about the new little feature?
