Rockstar Games has confirmed that gamers will be able to play Grand Theft Auto 5 from a first-person perspective once the game is re-released for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on the 18th of November and in January of 2015 for the PC version.
Rumours of the mode had been flying around message boards for months, especially as an earlier mod had already allowed the first person view to be activated on the Xbox 360. The first-person perspective in both the single player mode and in GTA online, Grand Theft Auto 5’s multiplayer mode. Players will be able to freely switch from a first person perspective to a third person perspective with a press of a button.
Animation director, Rob Nelson said that Rockstar Games felt the addition of a first-person perspective is what they needed to provide gamers with a new take on how the game is played. Nelson also said that Rockstar has always been interested in adding a first-person perspective to Grand Theft Auto 5 but the technical specifications of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 proved to be too much of an obstacle (although apparently not enough to stop modders).
The addition of a first-person perspective was much more difficult than changing the camera position. Essentially, animations had to be redone to suit the first-person perspective so that the gamers will feel more immersed in the world of Grand Theft Auto 5.
