Last week, Google introduced a brand new email app called Inbox and now, the internet giant has got another new app for its users – Google Calendar. The new Calendar app from Google not only features the new Material Design that comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop, it also packs a bunch of new features to make it more useful than ever.
It seems like Google is integrating Google Now functionality to its apps, the new Google Calendar can now automatically turn emails into Calendar events. This means that your flight, concert tickets, hotel reservations and such that enters your Gmail, will “automagically” appear on the Calendar, complete with things like flight numbers and check-in time. Calendar will even feed you with up-to-date information automatically so should your flight be delayed, be assured that Google will be there to inform you should your airline fail to do so.
Another new feature is “Assists”, whereby Google Calendar will automatically provide you with suggestions based on your behavior. Google says that if you frequently go running with Peter in Central Park, the app can quickly suggest the entire event when you type in “r-u-n”.
Finally, the new Google Calendar also has a new “Schedule View” that shows you more than just a list of dates and times, it shows you your life, or, that’s what Google says at least. Schedule View features a very beautiful interface that spices up your calendar evens using photos and maps of the places you’re going, cityscapes of travel destinations, and illustrations of everyday events like dinner, drinks and yoga.
The new calendar app is available immediately for Devices running on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and will be released to all Android 4.1+ devices in the coming weeks. Don’t be too upset if you are an iOS user, Google says that they are also working on a version for the iPhone so stay tuned. Check out Google for more information about its new Calendar app.
