Close to seventeen hours after the highly-anticipated pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were opened by local telcos DiGi and Maxis, the experience remains exceptionally erratic. The Maxis Online Store remains inaccessible, while DiGi’s one is a hit-and-miss affair. Eager customers are obviously not happy, venting their frustration at every available comment box online. Behind the scenes, both companies have been working on counter-measures to work around the issues faced.
The counter-measures are obviously not pretty, but it appears to be necessary to circumvent what will be a completely disastrous pre-order campaign for both telcos. For Maxis, the local telco has opened a new page on its main page, which is fully operational (albeit a little slow), for those who would like to pre-order the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This is because even at the time of writing, the Maxis Online Store is still completely down. Hence, Maxis is requiring those who would like to pre-order the new iPhones to enter their mobile numbers on this page and enter a virtual line. Maxis will presumably get in touch later to confirm which model customers would like to order. It is not known if the Midnight Express Delivery will still commence – though it is unlikely to be affected.
As for DiGi, the online store is rather erratic. Based on our experience, users may have to be very patient and wait as the site puts you in a virtual queue, requiring you to not close or refresh the page. The page will show some sort of timer or counter that either displays the number of seconds that you’ll have to wait, or the number of customers ahead of you before the site redirects to the store page. Your best bet would be to leave the page to run its course, and come back to it once it is redirected before you can place an order for the new iPhones. So far we have not experienced any timeouts while waiting for the timer/counter to run its course, though very rarely the DiGi Online Store will not load.
If you decide that it may be better to get these devices outright, here are the official retail prices of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in Malaysia.
