U Mobile and Oppo Malaysia recently announced their collaboration to offer some of the latest devices from Oppo Malaysia, together with a postpaid or prepaid plan from U Mobile. With this partnership, this means that U Mobile is now the first telco in Malaysia to offer devices from Oppo Mobile Malaysia.
As a start, U Mobile has got two new Oppo devices to offer, namely the Oppo Neo 5 (LTE), as well as the Oppo Joy. U Mobile may be offering both devices at retail price of RM598 and RM348 respectively, but they will also throw in extra freebies including free U58 subscription, or free U Mobile prepaid top-up vouchers.
Sign up for a 24 months contract with U Mobile’s U58 postpaid plan and purchase the Oppo Neo 5 (LTE) at RM598, and U Mobile will waive 6 months of subscription fee from your bill. U58 comes bundled with 3GB of internet and a total of 300 minutes of voice calls:
The Oppo Neo 5 is a mid-range LTE-enabled Android smartphone from the Chinese company. It features a 4.5” WVGA IPS display and is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core TM400 processor, with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage on board (up to 32GB via microSD slot). Other specs include 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 1900mAh battery and runs on Android 4.3 with ColorOS 1.2 out of the box.
Alternatively, if you are hoping to get something a little cheaper that does not tie you up to a contract, U Mobile is also offering the entry-level Oppo Joy. Purchase the Oppo Joy at retail price of RM348 from U Mobile, and the telco will offer extra freebies like free SIM pack worth RM8, free RM20 top up voucher, and free 4 months of Internet. Prepaid plans usually do not tie you up to a contract, but to enjoy the freebies such as free internet, you will need to ensure you top up your number frequently to keep the line activated.
Further information about the Oppo Joy bundle from U Mobile is pretty scarce at the moment, U Mobile only mentioned that the free internet offered with the bundle is limited to 250MB a month for every RM30 top-up starting from the third month of SIM activation, which sounds like it’s part of the telco’s “Vision 2,000,000” campaign.
While the Oppo Joy bundle does not tie you up to any contract, in order to enjoy the free Internet, you will need to ensure the line is active for at least three months. From the fourth month of onwards, U Mobile will throw in 250MB if data everytime you top up a minimum of RM30. There’s no limit to how many times you can enjoy the 250MB worth of free Internet, just top up at least RM30 and U Mobile will send you a confirmation SMS. Do watch out though because the 250MB of Internet will not be accumulated so each time you top up RM30, the free Internet will be refreshed to 250MB. The free Internet is limited to 4 months from the third month onward only.
The Oppo Joy is an entry-level smartphone from the Chinese company. It features a 4” WVGA IPS display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage on board. Other specs include 3MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 1700mAh battery and runs on Android 4.2 with ColorOS 1.0 out of the box.
