Blizzard has provided new details about the current state and future of its wildly popular online card game, Hearthstone. Aside from proudly proclaiming that the game now has more than 20 million players, the company also revealed that the Android and iPhone versions of the game are mostly complete; although the developers still have “a few more mana crystals to polish and some Angry Chickens to chase down“.
Hearthstone appeared on the iPad earlier this year to some success, and it appears that Blizzard is preparing to build on that by expanding to more mobile devices. How the game will look on even smaller displays is a mystery, as the current iPad version of the game looks exactly the same as the PC version. The limited space on a smartphone will make things very interesting for targeting and battlefield awareness.
The developer is saying that it is taking some extra time to get the experience right; a move that most fans of Blizzard will be familiar with. While the update makes no mention of Windows Phone, there is apparently a large movement of fans who are calling for another port to be made.
In other Blizzard news, the company has announced that Metallica will be performing at Blizzcon this year. The convention is held every year to celebrate everything from the developer, and usually features gaming competitions and plenty of announcements. Concerts are not unusual, although the choice of a band that hasn’t always gotten along with the internet is interesting to say the least.
