Spec Sheet: Nexus 6 vs. Flagship Android Smartphones in the Market (Bonus: Windows Phone and iPhone Comparison)

Google Nexus 6 by Motorola

Over the past few months, most major smartphone manufacturers have been busy announcing and launching their flagship smartphones. We saw many smartphones being announced earlier this year in MWC 2014, and back in IFA 2014, a whole lot more were released. Shortly after that, Apple held an event to take the curtains off its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and just last week, Google revealed the brand new Nexus 6 that features top-of-the-line specs. So how do all these devices stack up against each other? We have a spec sheet for that.

Google Nexus 6

The Google Nexus 6 by Motorola is definitely one of the most exciting Android smartphones to look forward to. The device will be the first to run on the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it packs all the latest and greatest hardware in the market right now including a Quad HD AMOLED display measured at 5.96” (1440 x 2560 resolution), and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor that features a 2.7GHz quad-core Krait CPU and Adreno 420 GPU. Other specs include 3GM of RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage, 13MP Sony IMX 214 image sensor with F2.0 lens, OIS, LTE, and 3220mAh battery.

So how does it stack up against other flagship Android smartphones out there like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z3, and even Motorola’s latest Moto X (2014) which was announced just 2 months ago?

Of course, there are more to a smartphone than just the hardware, but given how the Google Nexus 6 will be a pure Android device that has got no additional software features to weigh down on the OS, it’ll definitely be interesting to see its performance.

Nexus 6 Lollipop

The Google Nexus 6 will be available for pre-order through the Google Play Store (sorry Malaysians, the Play Store here does not sell devices), in late October starting at USD$649 for the 32GB version, and USD$699 for the 64GB one – that’s almost RM2,399, on par with some of the latest flagship smartphones available here in Malaysia like the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3, and even the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Motorola has stated that it will launch the device in 28 countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America, though judging by past history, it is unlikely that we will be seeing the Nexus 6 officially making its way to our country – but that obviously hasn’t stopped eager Malaysians to lay their hands on the Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 before it.
