After reports of an initial termination date on the 25th September 2014 due to a trademark complaint from Twitter, Twitpic announced that it couldn’t come to terms with investors and will be shut down on the 25th of October. As consolation, users can choose to export their photos until the 25th of October, after which they’ll disappear forever.
Noah Everett, Founder of Twitpic stated that he was deeply saddened with the imminent termination of Twitpic. Everett and team had went through their potential options but just could not come to terms with any of them despite a previous tweet from Twitpic claiming that a new lease on life was given to the photo sharing service.
Twitpic’s export tool will let users download their entire library of uploaded photos or at the very least, the last 5000 uploaded photos. Users will have to be placed in a queue if they wish to download their uploaded photos, presumably a result of demand.
