As you might have heard, BlackBerry Passport has landed in Malaysia during the weekend exclusively (until the end of this month) through Celcom. There was not much noise or fanfare accompanying the release of the new device into our market but apparently, the device has been selling quite well in our market.
According to forumer LiteBulb who visited Celcom’s Blue Cube at Mid Valley Megamall last Saturday to obtain his BlackBerry Passport, he was informed that the device is out of stock in Klang Valley on that very day. We checked with our industry sources yesterday and it turns out to be true that there are indeed shortage of BlackBerry Passport in the market but interestingly, it happened not only in Klang Valley but also throughout the country.
This echoed the positive reception that BlackBerry Passport has received when it went on sale through Amazon and BlackBerry’s own online store last month. That being said, none of our sources are able to specify to us the amount of BlackBerry Passport that have been sold in Malaysia since its launch last weekend. So, it is quite possible that there were only a handful of units allocated in the first shipment to our market.
Nevertheless, we supposed it is still a good news for BlackBerry who are doing its best to survive the current climate of smartphone market which is clearly being dominated by Google’s Android smartphones and Apple’s iPhone. Meanwhile, check out our first hands-on look at BlackBerry Passport right over here if you are wondering what it is all about.
