Lenovo’s latest Yoga Tablet 2 Pro will raise some eyebrows, and not just because they had Ashton Kutcher unveil it. The new top of the line Yoga Tablet includes a built-in pico projector that Lenovo says will put out a 50-inch image. It also includes a rear facing subwoofer for completing a tablet version of the home theatre experience.
The 13.3-inch quad HD IPS display is puts out a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Lenovo claims that it is able to last 15 hours on a single charge, although this is likely not including ever turning the project on. Inside is an Intel Atom Z3745 quad core processor with 2GB RAM, providing quite a bit of power to the device. There is also ample storage in the form of the internal 32GB which is expandable by 64GB via the microSD slot.
Lenovo’s biggest talking piece on the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is the pico projector hidden in the hinge of the kickstand. It puts out a 16:9 image and appears to be intended for home entertainment. Also included on the tablet are a pair of 1.5W front facing speakers, and a 5W rear facing subwoofer. The acoustics of the the tablet should be something that is interesting to discover. Interestingly, Lenovo has chosen for the projector to function as an entertainment device and not an enterprise one like what the Samsung Galaxy Beam turned out with.
Another interesting feature is the new mode for the kickstand. Aside from the Hold, Tilt, and Stand from the previous generation, the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro now adds the Hang mode. Which essentially allows the tablet to hang on a wall like a picture frame; a very expensive picture frame. The applications of this mode are still a mystery, but it does look like a very novel thing to do with a tablet.
