Asus will be launching its newest convertible smartphone, the Padfone S in Malaysia later this month. Like the predecessor, the Padfone S is a two piece device with a 5-inch smartphone and a 9-inch tablet dock. It is scheduled to arrive on 15 October at a price of only RM899. A complete steal considering the Snapdragon 801 process inside.
From what we gathered during the announcement earlier today, the Padfone S will also have 2GB RAM and a 13MP rear camera. Specifications will be updated as we receive more information, although it can be confirmed that the Padfone S will be LTE capable.
The docking station is a 9-inch tablet still known as the Pad Station. As before, it serves to provide the Padfone with additional battery life and a larger WUXGA screen in the event the user wants to watch videos or be productive. It appears that Asus is currently not bundling both the Padfone S and Pad Station together into a single package, and the price of RM899 will only buy customers the smartphone unit. Adding the tablet portion will require an additional RM499.
Black is the only colour available to the Asus Padfone S at launch, but more colours will be arriving at an unspecified later date.
