Now that the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are on their way to Malaysia (hopefully soon), many people will be looking into selling off their old iPhones. If you wish to buy an old iPhone, you can now check its Activation Lock Status from the web.
Available on iCloud (www.icloud.com/activationlock), you can check whether a device is locked and if so, find out how you can unlock it (you’ll need to contact the previous owner of course). If you plan to sell your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you can also use the page to check the status of your device, and make sure you perform all necessary procedures before selling.
This is actually a very helpful tool. Apple devices are always high in demand and it’s something thieves always go after. With this tool readily available on the web, you can easily check to make sure it’s not a stolen device, and that you can use it straight away. Activation Lock is a tool to keep your device secure. Even if erased remotely, the device will still be locked and no one will be able to use it without the unlock code.
Next time you wish to buy an iPhone or iPad from someone, run its IMEI or serial number through the Activation Lock status page to make sure it’s useable.
