There are smartphones catered for the high-end market, there are some that are catered for emerging market and now LG has just announced a smartphone specially targeted at the elderly or even handicapped users – LG Wine Smart, a clamshell Android smartphone.
The Wine Smart is a pretty low end Android smartphone that features a 3.5” LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 320. Beneath that is a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that is expandable via microSD slot. It packs a 8MP rear camera and a VGA front shooter, and has a 1,700mAh removable battery at its back.

But what makes the Wine Smart special isn’t in the specs. The device has some features specially designed for older users. There’s a “Safe Keeper” function that will automatically send out emergency notification that consists of the phone’s location to a pre-defined number. There’s also a dedicated physical button for launching Kakao Talk, a messaging app in Korea.
Sadly, the LG Wine Smart is available only in Korea, and will unlikely be brought out of its home country. It’s a pity how none of these clamshell smartphones are officially available in Malaysia, they actually look pretty good and it’ll be nice to have something different for a change.
