A documentary about Football Manager (previously known as Championship Manager) is set to be screened in the UK early next month. Titled An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary, it examines how the game has impacted the modern game of football; from how former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær grew up with it, to the advent of Premier League scouts using the game database to assist with discovering new talent.
The documentary will first be screened in selected cinemas in the UK, although the producers have promised that it will be made available for streaming and download after the 7 October premiere. It is likely that Film Nova will follow the lead of Valve and Riot games in releasing game related documentaries by putting it up on Youtube for public viewing. However, the UK screenings will include an interactive Q&A session with developer Sports Interactive chief Miles Jacobson with questions asked over Twitter.
Sports Interactive is not only screening the documentary to celebrate the growth and ubiquity of their game, but also to promote the upcoming Football Manager 2015; which has a tentative release date of November 2014.
