Looks like 19 September will be a big day for both Samsung and HTC in Malaysia. Shortly after it was announced that Samsung will launch its Galaxy Alpha smartphone in Malaysia next Friday, HTC Malaysia has now begun sending invites for the launch of the its Butterfly 2 smartphone here in the country.
The refreshed HTC Butterfly 2 is yet another option for those looking for a premium HTC smartphone that is not made of metal, besides the more affordable HTC One E8. The Butterfly 2 features a similar design language from last year’s Butterfly, and is also waterproof (HTC calls it “no-flap” IPX7) which is a feature not found on the flagship One M8.
In addition, the Butterfly 2 packs everything you’d expect from a flagship Android smartphone: Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6 and LTE connectivity. On top of that, the Duo Camera also makes an appearance on the Butterfly 2, but with a slight difference: the main camera is now a 13MP non-UltraPixel sensor instead of the 4MP one in the M8, while the secondary sensor is a 2MP unit. In front, the Butterfly 2 packs a 5MP camera sensor for all things selfie. The Butterfly 2 will also be getting its own Dot View Case.
Also, HTC has also collaborated with Harman to feature a unique “LiveStage Signal Processing Technology,” a digital signal processor (DSP) that combined with the exclusively-designed (but separately-sold) JBL in-ear headphones offer exceptional audio quality.
It also looks like Malaysia is one of the fastest markets to receive the Butterfly 2 outside of Japan, but pricing details will only be released at the launch event next week.
