Judging from the amount of news for the past few weeks, you might have realized that September is the month of new smartphones. For example, the second generation Motorola Moto G was just announced last week and BlackBerry will also be launching its next model, the BlackBerry Passport later this month.
Guess what: both of them should be available in Malaysia as they have been listed in SIRIM’s database yesterday.
Registered under Brightstar Distribution which is the official distributor for both BlackBerry and Motorola in Malaysia, the BlackBerry Passport was listed in the database as BlackBerry Windermere ER135A. If you wondering, the name Windermere is actually the codename for the device before the company decided to call it Passport.
We are slightly surprised to see the BlackBerry Passport to appear on SIRIM’s database since its global launch event will only takes place on 24 September. Is this mean we will see the device at retail stores on the same day? While we most probably will only know the answer in two weeks’ time, the prospect of that to happen in Malaysia is still quite interesting.
Meanwhile, the second generation Motorola Moto G is shown in the database as the XT1068 which is the same model number as per its listing at Amazon.co.uk. True to its specs, this particular variant has dual SIM functionality as noted in the database.
At the moment, Brightstar has yet to officially announce any details regarding the release and pricing of BlackBerry Passport and second generation Moto G in Malaysia. We will keep you posted once that happen, so stay tuned.
