The first Doodle 4 Google contest in Malaysia has come to an end with 16-year-old Lee Yee Run taking the top honours. The student from SMK Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, Selangor will have his creation featured on the Google Malaysia homepage on 16 September to celebration Malaysia Day. Lee beat out three other age-group category winners after three rounds of judging from the public and official Google doodle team.
Entries to Doodle 4 Google were divided into four age categories, from which the Google Malaysia team shortlisted several finalists for public voting. The grand prize winner was then chosen from the four age-group categories by the official Google doodle team.
The other age-group winners were:
- Age 7 – 9: Vaisnawi Harulnathan
- Age 10 – 12: Chin Joe Yi
- Age 13 – 15: Mohammed Anoof Ibrahim
Lee’s creation will be one of a handful Malaysia-centric Google doodles to be featured on the homepage, after the recent 2013 Elections, Yasmin Ahmad’s 56th birthday, and the 57th Merdeka Day doodle. He will also join a small elite group of artists from outside the Google organisation who have had their works featured on the world’s largest search engine.
All 20 of the finalists’ works can be found on the Doodle 4 Google website.
