The next iPhone is set to be announced late tomorrow night, and here at IFA 2014, a case maker from Taiwan is already promoting its latest cases for the iPhone 6 that appears to confirm the new iPhone’s button layout and final design.
Taiwanese case maker Innerexile‘s unassuming booth at IFA 2014 was mostly bare save for some large posters on the walls and a table showing off its wares. One may not even notice the Odyssey 6 aluminium case on the table if it weren’t for one of the posters showing what appears to be the iPhone 6; the side-mounted power button gave it away.
The Odyssey 6 is an aluminium bumper case with a protective plastic sheet at the back, and is designed for the iPhone 6. Made from a single block of aluminium, the bumper case features a hinge design for the user to pop in the new iPhone and completely protect the device – except the screen. It feels premium, too, with the metal providing an assured heft.
In addition, the Odyssey 6 case also appears to confirm the layout of the iPhone 6’s various connectivity ports and buttons. The power/unlock button has been shifted to the right side of the device, while the volume rocker and silent mode toggle remains to the left side. Down at the bottom, the case reveals that the 3.5mm audio jack, mic, Lightning port and speaker grille are all located here just like previous iPhones, but the speaker grille has been slightly redesigned. At the back, the polycarbonate sheet has an opening at the top left corner, which will be where the camera and flash module would be located.
Interestingly, the Odyssey 6 case will be available in three colours: Silver, Black and Gold, hinting of the three colourways the iPhone 6 would be available in.
The Odyssey 6 isn’t the only case designed for the iPhone 6 that can be found in this booth. There’s also the Hydra, a polycarbonate case that’s only 1mm thin and has an exclusive “self-healing” coating for minor scratches. Speaking to a company representative at the booth, I was told that the Odyssey 6 case in the booth was designed for the 4.7-inch variant of the iPhone 6; the 5.5-inch variant could only be released next year, which tallies with recent rumours of the supposed iPhone phablet.
Innerexile also has the Odyssey aluminium bumper cases for the iPhone 5, and are available in a variety of colours. The company also has a limited edition bumper case for the HTC One (M8), where only 1500 cases are available worldwide.
On a related note, Innerexile isn’t the only case maker to show off its iPhone 6 cases. Spigen, which released cases for the iPhone 5s on Amazon before the device was released, already has a host of new cases for the iPhone 6 available in its official website – the crazy part? Most of the cases are already listed as “in stock”.
