Microsoft has revealed more details about the next big update that follows the Cyan refresh. Lumia Denim will provide updates to how Cortana works, while also bringing improvements to the camera app. It will be first arriving on the current line of flagship phones in the Lumia 930, Lumia 1520, and Lumia Icon. The newly announced Lumia 830 will also be shipping with the update.
Lumia Denim focuses on making it easier to use Cortana; which is centered on the “hey Cortana” feature. It allows users to activate Cortana when you say “hey Cortana”; in a way that is similar to Google Now. Also demonstrated was the ability to make Skype calls through Cortana; it works as expected and isn’t anything exceptionally revolutionary. Although it is good to note that Microsoft is putting a lot of work into getting the system to work.
Also available is an updated camera app that increases the response time of the Lumia cameras; which have traditionally not been as responsive as some users would like. The amount of time it takes for the camera to start up and takes a picture has been dramatically cut down, and users can now simply hold down the shutter button for the camera app to start and immediately snap a picture.
The Rich Capture function from the Lumia 830 will also be available in this update. A feature that allows users to adjust flash lighting levels after the picture is taken.
Lumia Denim will be made available for all Lumia devices beginning Q4 of 2014.
