Dont’ fancy a phone larger than 5”? No problem, together with the announcement of the Sony Xperia Z3 flagship smartphone, Sony Mobile also announced the Xperia Z3 Compact, a smaller but equally powerful version of the Xperia Z3.
Basically, the Z3 Compact features everything found on the Z3 except for a smaller display of 4.6”, slightly less powerful (2GB of RAM vs 3GB RAM on the Z3) hardware and naturally, a smaller battery. Design wise, it looks pretty much the same with tempered glass panels and a rounded finish at the sides. It measures at 8.6mm thick and weighs 129 grams, making it the perfect size for one-handed use. As with the Z3, the Z3 Compact also features the highest waterproof rating rated at IP 65/68.
As with the leaks, the Xperia Z3 Compact will come in four colours – black, white, green and orange (yes, it’s orange, according to Sony). It has a 4.6” 720p display packed with the company’s very own TRILUMINOS technology with Live Color LED, X-Reality for mobile and intuitive contrast enhancement. On the insides, everything is pretty much the same with a 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 800 processor and Adreno 330 GPU however, instead of the 3GB RAM found on he Z3, the Z3 Compact comes with only 2GB of RAM.
Camera wise, the Z3 Compact has the same 20.7MP rear camera, new 25mm wide-angle Sony G Lens, and ISO sensitivity of up to 12800. Other specs include PS4 Remote Play, 2,600mAh built-in battery, LTE connectivity, and will run on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
