Do you own a HP or Compaq laptop that was purchased between September 2010 and June 2012? Well, this is an important announcement for you then: HP earlier today has launched a worldwide recall and replacement program for power cords that are provided for those laptops.
The recall notice has also been extended to power cords that might have been included together with accessories that were sold during the same time period such as docking station. Of course, the replacement power cord will be provided to eligible customers at no cost.
The reason behind this sudden recall notice by HP is due to the risk of fire and burn hazard for customers. Apparently, the company has received 29 reports of power cords overheating and melting or charring that resulted in two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of minor property damage according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
So, there you have it: if you owned a laptop or related accessories from HP and Compaq within the said time frame above, do head on to the replacement program’s website to verify your power cord even though it is still in a good condition at the moment. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
