For the longest time free Spotify users on Android and iOS were able to use the music streaming service on mobile devices, albeit with some limitations. This option is now extended to Windows Phone users, who until yesterday could only access the service on a mobile if they had a premium subscription.
Free mobile Spotify is only able to play songs on the shuffle setting, although users are still free to build and select their own playlists. It does mean that it is not so useful for playing that one song you want to hear at that particular time. The update also brings an updated interface which doesn’t change much in terms of functionality.
News of the new features came late last night; however, there was no indication of it on our devices. In fact, it appears that the only way to get the update is to uninstall Spotify and then download it again from the Windows Phone Store. Considering that it is meant to attract new users it may not be a huge issue; but it is annoying for those of who have expired premium accounts and want to listen to use the service for free.
