Western Digital (WD) has announced an expansion to its WD Red line of SATA hard drives. The expansion includes home edition and small office NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems with the release of a 5TB as well as 6TB capacity for its NAS-specific storage.
WD Red can now house a maximum capacity 5TB to 6TB according to the variation of the models. Besides that, the company also brought upgrade to the software powering the hard drives – NASware 3.0. With the new software update, the company promises to improve the performance of its hard drives and improve the ease-of-use.
The hard drives can be integrated with WD My Cloud, WD My Cloud EX2, WD My Cloud EX4, WD My Cloud Mirror personal cloud storage as well as My Book and My Book Duo external drive solutions.
WD has been making hard drives to address home and small business in the NAS market for the longest time, however, the company is now introducing WD Red Pro for the use of medium to large businesses in the NAS market. In addition to the update to NASware 3.0., it supports 8 to 16 bays of NAS system that are optimised for heavy office uses.
Besides the WD Red line, the WD Green line of “cool and quite” hard drives will also be expanded with 5TB and 6TB storage capacities.

The new WD Red 5TB will cost RM819.00 while the 6TB model will RM989.00. The WD Red Pro comes in as 2TB, 3TB, and 4TB and it is priced at RM529.00, RM659.00, and RM859.00 respectively.
