Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has just posted something pretty interesting on his Weibo account: a teaser poster for a new Redmi Note smartphone.
The teaser poster shows the same Redmi Note design that we’re familiar with, but one thing stands out when you take a closer look: the status bar of the phone shows 4G connectivity – a dead giveaway for what will be the refreshed Redmi Note with 4G LTE connectivity which will be announced tomorrow.
In fact, the LTE Redmi Note – as well as the LTE Redmi – have been registered into China’s CCC database sometime last month. It had been rumoured that Xiaomi would unveil these devices at its recent launch event in Beijing, but the company chose to focus only on the Mi 4.
Interestingly, the Chinese text above the device hints that the device will be “lighter” and “faster”. While the latter is likely a nod towards the faster LTE speeds the new Redmi Note will be capable of, the first hint is a very likely indication that the new Redmi Note will be lighter than before – it weighed a hefty 199g, so making the new edition lighter is always a welcome change.
Exactly how Xiaomi will be achieving this remains up in the air. But we’ll find out more tomorrow when Xiaomi officially announces the 4G LTE Redmi Note, including more information such as prices and (hopefully) international availability.
[Update @ 10:35pm] Xiaomi’s official Twitter account has unveiled the English version of the poster:
