Publisher 2K Games has announced that the original Bioshock game is being ported to iOS devices. This particular port is apparently being handled by 2K China, and is expected to join Apple’s growing stable of premium priced triple A titles like XCOM: Enemy Unknown and the Grand Theft Auto Franchise. Although there is no indication of how much it will actually end up costing or when it is scheduled for release.
Bioshock follows the player as he explores the ruined underwater city of Rapture and discovers the truth behind the dimly lit halls. It is not entirely for the faint of heart as the game perfectly captures the sense of isolation and horror that is absent from most of modern media. Gaining super powers are also involved.
However, those familiar with the original game can expect some loss in graphical detail as the game is scaled down for use on tablets and smartphones. Although some sites are reporting that the dark halls of Rapture still retain the spooky atmosphere of when the game was first released in 2007.
With the number of iPhone and iPad controller peripherals being announced, it might not be a bad time to revisit the start of an award winning franchise.
