It has been long since HTC launched their last Windows Phone – the HTC 8X and 8S both of which were very well received by users. However, a recent rumour states that HTC is planning to launch their next Windows Phone with a moniker of their flagship line, the One.
For now, the handset will internally go by the codename, W8, as previously mentioned few months ago and may eventually be named the “HTC One M8 for Windows”. As the rumour was previously hinted in a tweet by @evleaks months ago, there are still no leaked renders of the device, nor any signs of official photo of the device. Nevertheless, the device would probably retain the same hardware and chassis of the HTC One M8, swapping only the Android OS for Windows Phone 8.1 (WP8.1).
With the recent trend for HTC to bear multiple exclusive features such as BoomSound speakers and depth-sensing Duo Camera on the HTC One M8, the Windows Phone-powered HTC One would also boast the next-generation voice technology known as Voice over LTE (VoLTE) . In a nutshell, VoLTE technology harnesses the excellent data capabilities of LTE and combines them on the same network with traditional voice services.
HTC is preparing to launch the One M8 for Windows with WP8.1 alongside the coming Update 1 by Microsoft in the US with a local operator, Verizon in the end of September. There is a high possibility that the HTC Dot View Case would be able to be used on the Windows Phone handset as Update 1 will also bring support for interactive case.
