Japanese manufacturer of Transformers toys, Takara Tomy, has revealed a new version of Optimus Prime to be released in 2015. This particular Transformers-console crossover is not the first to be announced by the toy company as fans are still waiting on the arrival of the Sega Megadrive Megatron.
Officially known as Optimus Prime featuring Sony PlayStation, this figure is being released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Transformers franchise and also the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. Prime will stand approximately 19cm tall when the final product is released; and no, you will not be able to use him to play games as there will not be a working disc drive on this PlayStation. Although the fake memory card will transform into a gun for Prime to use.
A historical selection of 1/6th scale PlayStation miniatures are also being produced as part of this celebration. Beginning with the PlayStation 2, these miniatures will also ship with an appropriately scaled PlayStation DualShock controller. The best part about these miniatures is that they will be sold in those blind packs that the Japanese love.
There is no word if these toys will be sold outside Japan, although one can only hope that they arrive on our shores.
