Reddit, the current centre of the internet, has announced a new feature. Known as Reddit Live, it allows users to post in real time; turning the anonymous message board into massive chatroom. Anyone can create a new thread in the r/live subreddit, and there is already a massive amount of chaff and nonsense that has taken place. The live update feature of Reddit has been in beta testing since February with more serious topics taking centre stage. Redditors have been updating and posting about the Ukrainian conflict since it began, and the thread now provides updates on the situation faster than most news sources. Of course, unlike news sources most of the information presented is unverified; although as of late the thread itself has stuck to aggregating news links and Tweets from journalists.
Reddit has set up a direct link for submitting new threads and is currently collecting feedback on the feature. Some may wonder if Reddit Live has arrived a little too late and it would have been brilliant to have it for the recently concluded World Cup. Especially as it was already tested for the NBA Summer League.
Although this being the case, it looks like Reddit might be the place to get live updates on sporting events. Just like how the site has become a valuable resource for writers to discover new stories and information.
