Last week, Microsoft has made a surprise announcement that it will be shifting future Nokia X products to Lumia Windows Phone family in order to produce more low-cost Lumia devices. Generally, this mark the end to Nokia X platform even though Microsoft stated that the company is still committed to the existing Nokia X devices until 2015.
True to its words, we believe that we might be able to see Nokia X2 in Malaysia soon. This is due to its appearance on SIRIM’s database; registered as RM-1013 by Nokia Malaysia as well as two of the brand’s long-time distributor, Zitron and Avaxx.
It is possible that Microsoft might have already planned to release Nokia X2 in Malaysia all along since the listing date on SIRIM’s database appears to be few days before Microsoft announce its decision to shut down Nokia X platform. However, we are not sure how Microsoft able or willing to proceed with the plan since last week’s announcement will certainly have a huge negative impact on Nokia X2.
That is unless Microsoft has a plan that is good enough to attract Malaysia customers to the Nokia X2. Of course, there is still a possibility that the company might not release the device into our market altogether. With that, let’s wait and see which path that Microsoft will choose for Nokia X2 in Malaysia.
