Google recently released an update to its Google Maps app bringing it to version 8.2. The update adds in new features including an in-navigation voice control, where you can easily navigate your way without the need of typing while driving. The new Voice control feature can be accessed from the bottom left icon on the main screen of the app.
This additional feature to the app is indeed a major change to Google Maps, benefitting those who prefer to interact with the application hands-free. There are also specific commands that users can use such as “Show traffic” and “Navigate to [place]”.
On top of that, Google also added in a new mode of transport called “bicycling” that displays bicycle-friendly routes. The new mode also shows elevation data, providing more detailed information for them before navigating to their desired destination. This will give cyclists a choice on taking either an easy relaxing route or, if they wish to go for a workout, they can pick the tougher route instead.
Finally, another major improvement made towards the software is the change of the main interface. There is now a microphone button located on the right of the search bar itself. Google users will be familiar with the icon as it is also available on Google search bar and Google Now.
We have yet to test this feature out since Malaysia has not received the update yet.
