What is better than one graphics card? Well, the obvious answer would be two (or more) graphics cards. However, some users prefer to have them in one single package and even though there are only a handful of users out there that are actually able to afford dual-GPU graphics card, GPU companies have no problem fulfilling that request year after year.
One such product that was released in Malaysia recently is this monstrous Radeon R9 295X2, the latest and the greatest (so far) from AMD.
First, let’s briefly talk about it main specifications. . The AMD Radeon R9 295X2 is equipped with two fully-unlocked Radeon R9 290X GPUs which runs at a clock speed of up to 1018 MHz and offers a total of 5,632 stream processors. It also comes together with 8GB GDDR5 RAM that runs at 5 GHz on a dual 512-bit memory bus.
In general, you can think of AMD Radeon R9 295X2 as a set of two AMD Radeon R9 290X cards that are connected together through the new Crossfire Direct Memory Access technology but instead of two separate physical cards, they are combined into one single card. According to AMD, the Radeon R9 295X2 is apparently capable of deliver 11.5 TFLOPS of computing performance.
Apart from the raw performance, another attraction of the Radeon R9 295X2 is its liquid cooling solution that comes as standard right in the box. Made by Asetek, the maintainence-free closed-loop liquid cooling system is made of two integrated pump and waterblock (one for each of the Radeon 295X2’s GPU) together with a 120mm radiator which also includes a 120mm fan.
Apparently, I was informed that users care able to change the radiator’s fan themselves if they prefer a different fan since the power connector for the fan is actually detachable. For other parts of the card, the cooling is handled by the secondary thermal setup that covers the graphics card.
It consisted of another fan that is located at the centre of the card which works in hand with the aluminium cooling shroud on the front area of the card and a copper heatsink that is positioned just underneath the fan. In addition to that, there’s also the full-length metal plate on the back to further dissipate heat generated by the card.
As the center fan is also equipped with LED light, it is quite a sight to behold whenever the Radeon R9 295X2 is in operation. I mean, just take a look at it below:
Obviously, such a powerful graphics card also comes with a hefty price tag. A quick check through Viewnet’s price list for the second week of July revealed that customers are able to choose either MSI or Sapphire-branded R9 Radeon 295X2 for RM 5499. Also available is the ASUS R9 Radeon 295X2 which can be obtained from C-Zone for RM 5888 according to its price list dated 12 July.
