Today marks my last day at Lowyat.NET.
4 years ago, I moved back to KL from Singapore to take up the job as a writer for Lowyat.NET under my then editor and now one of my best friends Wern Shen. I won’t lie, that first step into the industry was somewhat a leap 2 footed into the unknown, new city, new industry and new people.
Looking back now, I’m glad I did it.
In my tenure at Lowyat.NET, i’ve had the fortune to travel to some of the places I’d have only dreamed about, play with all the latest gadgets that people talk about and meet incredible people (clients, PR folk, colleagues and even readers) that have become an important part of my personal growth. But as our Vice President Eddy Han once told me in one of our heart to hearts when delusions of grandeur were clouding my vision:
“Lowyat.NET doesn’t just belong to us, it’s the community’s as well. We are nothing without our readers”
So in my last ever post on Lowyat.NET, I’d like to bring it back to basics and thank each and every one of you for your support of our team in the past 4 years. Thank you for letting us write and subsequently reading our opinions even though they may not be quite the same as yours. Thank you for staying up late with our team when Apple has a new announcement, I/O blew our minds or even when the sheer volume of CES was driving us up the wall. Thank you for every share, every like, every comment (good, bad or troll) on Facebook, driving us to over 100k likes. Thank you for calling us out when we made “denda jar” mistakes and even when we were just plain flat-0ut wrong.
I will be leaving the site in extremely capable hands, ones that given enough time will be even more capable then I could ever dream of being myself. My deputy editors Huei and Pang will continue to deliver only the best content to you, invoke discussion and write articles of the standard that brought us to where we are today. Complete with the team at hand of Chapree and Farhan, I couldn’t feel more confident that moving forward, this new era for Lowyat.NET will be the best yet. All I ask is that you continue to do what you are doing and help Lowyat.NET get to the next level.
With a heavy heart, I’m leaving the world of tech journalism. To those of my esteemed colleagues, continue to fight the good fight. The fight where content is key and not what will melt my heart. The fight which will hold us all to higher standards of accountability and with that, our industry will grow even more than it is now.
It’s been fun, it was difficult but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
