Ever wish there’s a way to find keys, bags or other valuables via your smartphone? Well, earlier this year Nokia has actually introduced one such method through an accessory that the company called Treasure Tag.
The Nokia Treasure Tag is essentially a small box that houses a sensor with Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC functionalities as well as a single button and a rubber loop for users to hand the Treasure Tag on their items. Operating the device is also as simple as how its physical design looks like although it is completely dependent on the Treasure Tag app.
Once connected to a phone, users are then able to use the Treasure Tag app to show the sensor’s last known location on the map or trigger its alarm to make it easier for users to locate the tag as well as the items that are tied to it. Apart from that, users will also be notified on their phone once the Nokia Treasure Tag goes out of range.
Not to forget, users are also able to utilize the Nokia Treasure Tag to locate their phone by pressing the button on the tag which will then make the phone rings. On Windows Phone 8.1, users are even able to actually set specific ringtone for Treasure Tag’s notification.
Powered by a user-replaceable CR2032 coin battery, Microsoft claims that the Treasure Tag has a maximum battery life of 180 days. On Windows Phone, users are able to pair up to four Treasure Tag per smartphone but even though it is made for Nokia Lumia devices (as long as they support Bluetooth 4.0), the Treasure Tag apparently can be used with Android and iOS devices through third-party apps.
All in all, the Nokia Treasure Tag WS-2 is ultimately a simple, general purpose wireless tag that is really easy to set up, operate, and maintain. However, the Treasure Tag is not designed to withstand rough usages or elements such as water and dust; so some care is still needed.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Malaysia so far has yet to confirm any plan to release it separately. At the moment, the Nokia Treasure Tag is only available to customers that pre-ordered the Nokia Lumia 930 through last week’s road show and participating Nokia Stores.
