Truth to be told, HP is usually not the name that one will utters when it comes to gaming notebook. That is rather unfortunate because HP actually had the chance to turn that around when it bought quite a well-known gaming PC company called VoodooPC in 2006 but as the story goes, things went downwards soon after.
In the end, the only thing that left from that acquisition is the “Envy” moniker although it is definitely not the same Envy that we knew from VoodooPC era. Fast forward to last week, it seems that HP is planning a comeback in the gaming notebook space; thanks to the emergence of these leaked images that are said to an upcoming gaming notebook from HP.
According to @evleaks, this laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i7-4712MQ quad-core processor which runs at the speed of up to 3.3GHz. Furthermore, it is features an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M as its GPU although there was no mention whether this GPU is using Kepler or Maxwell chip.
Other feature that has been built into the laptop is a set of speakers that are located at left and right side of the keyboard which is enhanced by Beats Audio, judging from the appearance of Beats logo on the top left side of the laptop’s display. Also included in the laptop is a lighting system that is customizable through software which is a common feature among gaming notebook.
There are no visible VoodooPC branding or VoodooDNA label on the laptop though but the spirit of the company seems to be there through the sleek looking design that the laptop has. It also seems that HP has already designated a series for the notebook (etched just under the left side of the laptop’s keyboard) although the shaky camera shot pretty much blurred the name.
This upcoming notebook apparently will be released later this year with the aim of going head to head against Dell’s Alienware. Well, this is going to be interesting then…but first, let’s wait for official announcement from HP just to make sure what we have seen here is real.
