While plasma TVs have been teetering on the brink thanks to Panasonic pulling them out of production last year it looks like Samsung may have just dealt the final nail in the coffin to an ageing technology. Come November, Samsung will be halting production of their F8500 Plasma TV line in favour of concentrating efforts in 4K and Curved Display TVs.
Of course this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to find anymore plasma TVs, it just means that there will be no more advancement in the Plasma TV technology from the largest player in that market. The demise of Plasma TV is definitely due to the shift in focus from more and more manufacturers to getting 4k technology to be a more mainstream affair for the consumer. The added fact that Plasma TVs are indeed more expensive to manufacture than LED TVs also did no favours for the Plasma.
