HTC has announced its support for the upcoming Android L, despite there not being an official release date for Google’s next generation of mobile OS. The media alert declares that HTC will update the HTC One (M8) within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google. Other HTC devices will follow soon, although there is no official timeline for when this will happen.
“HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can’t wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices.” said Jack Yang, President of HTC South Asia.
Android L is the biggest redesign of Google’s mobile operating system yet. Effectively changing how the entire thing looks and feels. The appearance which unifies elements found in Android and Chrome will make it easier for users to switch between Chromebooks and other Android based mobile devices.
While HTC’s pledge to begin pushing out updates within 90 days of the final approval, it is unlikely that all users will receive it within that time frame. The HTC blog announcement only mentions rolling out the updates, and qualifies the statement with the disclaimer that actual updates will depend on device, region, and carrier.
