The new Nokia X2 that was unveiled earlier today not only comes with new hardware and look but it also features a new software although the device is still running on Android. Simply dubbed as the Nokia X Software Platform 2.0, it is an enhanced version of the original Nokia X software which includes a new pull-down menu, new camera UI and plenty of other improvements.
Unfortunately, the new software will not be available for the original line-up of Nokia X devices.
Apparently, this is due to the hardware differences between Nokia X2 and Nokia X devices according to Yannis Paniaras, the Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft. However, Yannis did stated that the Nokia X, Nokia X+, and Nokia XL will receive a number of updates in the future to improve Nokia X Software Platform 1.0 used on those devices.
It is indeed baffling to hear this news especially considering the fact that Nokia X series was only launched in February and furthermore, Nokia XL was only released in Malaysia last month. Not to forget, this is not the first time this happens to Nokia / Microsoft mobile ecosystem since if you can recall, Windows Phone 7 was not upgradable to Windows Phone 8 due to hardware issues as well.
Well, let’s hope that those said updates for Nokia X devices are actually good enough to lessen the fury that current owners of Nokia X might have after reading this news. Then again, you do know that the you can actually used other Android launchers on Nokia X devices, right?
