Following suit with the iOS and Android security solutions, Microsoft is working on a suite of its own to render Windows Phone device useless after a theft. Microsoft plans to release an update soon that includes extending the “Find My Phone” functionality with an Activation Lock. This prevents thieves from wiping and reusing a stolen device without the proper Microsoft Account credentials.
Apple introduced it in iOS 7 and according to police in San Francisco and London, it has helped to reduce the amount of theft cases. This is a good step forward for Microsoft and even Google is following suit by July 2015.
