Plagued by delays and criticism from local consumers regarding the significant hardware differences between Malaysian and Chinese variants, the ASUS ZenFone 5 is now finally available in Malaysia. As per rumoured, it seems like the 2-months delay might be because ASUS has apparently decided to upgrade the ZenFone 5 spec for Malaysian market.
Specifically, the ASUS ZenFone 5 that is available or already on its way to retail store throughout Malaysia this week features 2GB RAM instead of just 1GB as per the original unit. However, the rest of the specs such as the 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor and 8GB internal storage together with the designated A501CG model number remained the same.
In other words, only the amount of RAM has been increased while no changes have been made to other components. To put things in perspective, even though the RAM is now equal to the ZenFone 5 model that was released in China, but the Chinese model still has a faster 2.0GHz Intel Atom Z2580 processor and more internal storage at 16GB.
At the same time, the ASUS ZenFone 5 price in Malaysia still remains at RM 599 as well even though it features more RAM. Do be patient though if you found that its hard to acquire the device despite this announcement by ASUS Malaysia because from what we heard within the distribution channels, stocks of ZenFone 5 are rather scarce at the time being – a repeat of what happened during the arrival of ZenFone 4 in Malaysia few weeks ago.
