While the World Cup in Brazil kicked off in the early hours of today, World of Tanks has also issued a new 9.1 update that introduces a Football Battle mode. The celebration of the World Cup season will run until 13 July 2014, and allow players to drive their tanks around trying to play football.
Using a modified version of the Himmelsdorf map, the Football battle is a 3v3 match that lasts seven minutes. Players will have to move the ball by either ramming it with their tanks or shooting at it. It also provides a new Football Player 2014 medal for playing in the match. Special limited run game modes appears to be the latest thing to come out of Wargaming’s popular tank based MMO, with a strange-yet-entertaining version of the classic Battle City appearing during April Fools Day.
On the Serious side of the 91. update is a new map in the form of Kharkov and a historical battle known as the Siege of Tobruk. History enthusiasts will recognise Tobruk as the location at which the Australian Desert Rats held out against Rommel’s superior forces for almost a year during World War II.
