At yesterday’s Sony media unveiling of the new imaging devices, the company also had a surprise in store: the new A7S mirrorless full frame camera. It is the only unit available in the country, and Sony were careful to no let any one of our prying hands touched it. Enclosed in a glass box, here’s a first look at Sony’s highly impressive camera that can shoot at up to ISO 409,600.
Announced two months ago, the A7S is another entry to the new A7 series of full frame mirrorless cameras from Sony, with the other two being the A7 and A7R – both equally impressive cameras in their own right. While the A7S sports a significantly smaller megapixel count, it makes up for it in sensitivity: the A7S has a usable ISO range of 50 all the way up to 409,600, essentially allowing it to see in the dark.
A hands-on session by Fstopacademy shows just how sensitive the A7S is: in a totally dark room, with the only light sources being the light from a window and a sliver from the hallway, the A7S produces an impressively usable (though noisy) image shot at ISO 409,600; even more sensitive than the human eye can perceive.
In any case, Sony has revealed that the A7S will be launched in Malaysia next month; pricing details were not revealed at this point in time. After all, this was just meant to be a teaser and a taste of what’s to come next month.
