Nintendo has been accused of not coming up with any new IPs in the last decade or so. This year at E3, the Japanese manufacturer has announced something that nobody saw coming – Code Name: STEAM. The title is apparently a turn based strategy game designed to look like a third person shooter; also, Abraham Lincoln fights an alien invasion.
Due out in 2015, the game has players moving characters around as if it was a third person shooter. However, every turn and shot costs a number of turn points. Whether this turns into an elegant blend of the two genres is highly questionable, although it is intended for the Nintendo 3DS which should provide the proper mindset for playing this sort of game.
Code Name: STEAM takes place in a steampunk world, where each of the fighters using steam powered weapons to defend the earth from aliens. Adding to the surreal idea behind the game, players take on the role of a commander leading a team founded by American president Abraham Lincoln.
The game is being developed by Intelligent Systems, who made the highly entertaining Advanced Wars games, with art by Takaki Sakai, who previously worked on the Fire Emblem games. It should be arriving at some point in 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.
