The Steam Summer Sale is one of the most anticipated events of the year. An image appearing on the NeoGAF forums appears to confirm that the sale will begin on 19 June 2014 and last until 28 June; with an extra two days worth of encore sales. With the announcements from E3 still fresh, it would be a good time to catch up on the games you missed in preparation for the launch of the multiple sequels.
These Steam sales generally provide massive discounts, and is the gamer equivalent of any shopping centre mega sale. Regulars will be aware that buying from Steam during this period must be carefully planned, and nothing will be bought unless it is on a Daily Sale, Flash Sale, or Community Choice. These titles are usually substantially cheaper, although there is the risk of the title never appearing in one of these three categories.
Another aspect of Steam that tends to be ignored are the Steam Trading cards, which can be collected to make badges. Smart users will sell these trading cards for money in the community marketplace, which will provide funds to buy even more games.
