Huawei has today announced its flagship Android smartphone, the Ascend P7, in Malaysia alongside several new models including the X1 7.0 tablet, the TalkBand B1 wearable device and several more.
Building on its previous flagship Android smartphone, the Ascend P6, the Ascend P7 refines on its sleek outer design with its “Double C” design language. Huawei has also ensured that the Ascend P7 is refined not just on the outside, but in the hardware and software as well. This is the first Huawei smartphone to run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Huawei’s new Emotion UI 2.3.
The Huawei Ascend P7 is powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 910T 1.8GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. The Ascend P7 sports a 5-inch Full HD INCELL display, with a pixel density of 441ppi. One aspect some may should be pleased about is the fact that the P7 supports up to 64GB microSD cards in addition to its 16GB of built-in storage. On the imaging front, the P7 packs a 13MP non-spherical lens BSI camera that Huawei claims can be activated in only 1.2 seconds after double-clicking on the volume down button when the device is locked.
As for the front-facing camera, Huawei’s gone a little more extreme with the addition of a 8MP sensor with non-spherical lens that is equipped with IMAGESmart 2.0 software. Naturally, Huawei claims that the P7’s front-facing camera is perfect not just for selfies, but also for “groufies” – a term Huawei coined for its “Panoramic Selfie” feature. The front-facing camera also features 10 levels of “auto facial enhancements” in Beauty Mode, letting you choose your desired level of non-surgical facial upgrade.
Being a leader in radio technologies has also helped with the development of the ultra-slim Ascend P7. This 4G LTE smartphone – which measures only 6.5mm thick and weighs a mere 124g – packs a dual-antenna setup which is designed to improve signal reception, and uses smart network switching technology that stabilizes a connection even during weak signal receptions to minimize battery drainage. Speaking of which, the Ascend P7 also comes with its own Ultra Power Saving Mode, which shuts down functions that drain your battery the most, letting you make calls and text only. On this mode, Huawei claims that with 10% of battery charge left, the P7 will still be on standby for up to 24 hours.
Apart from the Ascend P7, Huawei also announced the arrival of the company’s new X1 7.0 tablet. This tablet, which comes in either 3G or 4G variants, features a vivid 1920 x 1200 7-inch display while being just 7.18mm thick, giving it great comfort for use with one hand. Running on a HiSilicon Kirin 910 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, this tablet actually features a 13MP Sony camera sensor in its rear, while sporting a 5MP shooter in front. There’s 16GB of built-in storage, which can be further expanded with up to 32GB microSD cards. This 239g tablet, which runs on Android 4.2, also carries a massive 5000mAh built-in battery.
Besides that, Huawei also beefed up its mid-range offerings with a new smartphone and a new tablet called the Ascend G6 (LTE/3) and the MediaPad M1 8.0 (LTE/3G) respectively. The G6 sports a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 4GB (3G variant) or 8GB (4G variant) of storage, a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 IPS display, and a 2000mAh battery. This 7.5mm thick smartphone also has a 8MP f/2.0 rear and 5MP front-facing cameras.
The MediaPad M1 8.0 sports a 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s only 8GB of storage, but the M1 also has a microSD card slot. This Android 4.2-running tablet sports a 8-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, in addition to a 4800mAh battery. Finally, there’s a 5MP rear camera, while the front-facing module is just 1MP. What’s different about the MediaPad M1 is the fact that this tablet sports two front-facing stereo speakers.
And then, there’s one final device Huawei unveiled today, which is the TalkBand B1 wearable. This device, which sports a black and white curved OLED display, not only tracks your steps and calories burned but also features an embedded Bluetooh headset, allowing you to use it to answer phone calls. The IP57-rated fitness band also has a battery life that’s rated for up to 6 days of use.
